Katie Ketchum is a composer, playwright, pianist and actor, who lives in Sebastopol. She received the National Endowment for the Arts for her one woman musical about the American painter Mary Cassatt. In 2008 her Mary Magdalene musical with Ketchum’s original songs was included in the Sacramento Theatre Company season for a month’s run and received critical acclaim in San Francisco as well. Ketchum studied composition at the Royal Conservatory of Music and piano with Helen Sylvester and Weldon Kilburn. She won many Canadian piano competitions sponsored by Her Majesty the Queen of England at which she received many awards including the British Columbia, Bicentennial Cultural Fund award for the most promising student of the competition. Katie Ketchum has a piano and voice school at Sebastopol Center for the Arts where she will premiere her new one person show June 18th at 7:30pm. Ketchum has been invited to perform “An Evening with Clara Schumann” at the Cranberry Coast Music Festival in Massachusetts in July.
